Show Me The Money – FBI Indicts Four NCAA Assistant Coaches
09-26-2017 – FBI arrests four college basketball assistants on charges of fraud
4 Assistant coaches were arrested on fraud/ corruption charges as revealed
by the FBI this morning:
Auburn Chuck Person
USC Tony Bland
Artizona Emanual Richardson
Oklahoma Lamont Evans
The charges stem from alleged payoffs to high school players
to entice them to sign with specific Universities.
Along with the coaches people working for or connected to
the Adidas corporation are involved:
James Gatto Dir. Global Marketing Adidas
Merl Code who is employed at Adidas but position unknown at writing.
Christian Dawkins formerly of ASM sports
Jonathon Augustine president Adidas sponsored family AAU
Munish Sood financial adviser
Rishan Michel ex NBA official founder Thompson Bespoke clothing.
Upon becoming aware of the indictment Adidas public relations issued the following statement:
“Today, we became aware that federal investigators arrested an Adidas employee.
We are learning more about the situation. We’re unaware of any misconduct and will fully cooperate
with authorities to understand more.”
Individual schools involved were not named, referred to in the indictment only as school 1, 2 etc.
In part of the unsealed complaint misconduct by Person is alleged as follows:
Person solicited bribes from a financial adviser for pro athletes in exchange for steering
future clients his way. Turns out the adviser was working as an informant for the FBI.
(As a quick aside I wonder what his motivation for becoming an informant was?)
According to the complaint, Gato, Code, Dawkins and Sood “worked together to funnel $100,000 from
(Adidas) to the family of a high school player in exchange for (the player’s) commitment to play
at an NCAA Division I university whose athletic programs are sponsored by (Adidas).” The school
was school was named school 6.
Gato, Code, Augustine and Sod also allegedly agreed to funnel payments of as high as as $150,000 from
Adidas to a high school player to play at a school referred to as University 7.
For Dawkins’ services and a pledge to sign with Adidas after the player turned pro.
Dawkins and Augustine also “agreed to funnel payments to the family” of another high
school player for that player’s pledge to University 6.
We’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this one.
