College Football Odds Week 5

Georgia Bulldog Mark RichtWill a top 10 team go down this week, changing the early landscape of the College Football Playoff? The answer to that question will have to wait, but opening College Football Odds Week 5 from offshore bookmaker would suggest it is a strong possibility for at least one squad.

Brian Kelly’s banged up but resilient Fighting Irish are in Clemson, South Carolina this weekend to face the 12th ranked Tigers and they are getting one-point from Dabo Swinney’s squad.

Notre Dame is the only top 10 team lined as an underdog this week, though, and it is one of just three playing away from home. No. 1 Ohio State and No. 3 Ole Miss are also on the road, facing Indiana and Florida, respectively. The Buckeyes are favored by 21 over the Hoosiers while the Rebels are laying 7.5 points in their showdown with the Gators.

Aside Mississippi, Georgia is the only other Top 10 school playing as a favorite of fewer than 7.5 points. The Bulldogs will host No. 13 Alabama on Saturday; the odds makers see the contest going either way with Mark Richt’s troops giving two-points to the Crimson Tide.

This weekend’s meeting between the two conference rivals is the first since the 2012 SEC Championship Game. Alabama won that contest 32-28, but it failed to cover the 7.5 point spread. Buyer beware on these Bulldogs, though. Georgia is 1-11 against the spread in its last 12 games playing as a home favorite coming off back-to-back home wins.

Also on tap this weekend is a Top 25 clash between Big 12 rivals West Virginia and Oklahoma. The No. 23 Mountaineers, who broke into the polls with Saturday’s thrashing of Maryland, are lined as a +7 road underdog to the 15th ranked Sooners.

No. 21 Mississippi State will visit No. 14 Texas A&M as well. The Aggies, who slipped past Arkansas 28-21 in overtime last weekend, are favored by seven over the visiting Bulldogs.
