Warriors, Cavs Easy Fave for 2018 NBA Finals

The 2017 NBA Finals open on Thursday night in Oakland. The Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers battle for the title for a third consecutive season. The latest NBA Odds from Bovada.lv have Stephen Curry and company listed as a -240 favorite to win the best-of-seven series and avenge last year’s stunning Finals upset at the hands of the Cavs. The odds makers are looking further than just this year’s championship. 2018 NBA Finals Odds can already be found at some online sportsbooks.

If said prognostications are correct, the Warriors and Cavaliers will be vying for the Larry O’Brien Trophy again next June. The favorite is no big surprise. The Golden State Warriors odds are at -150 odds. Cleveland is a +300 line to win the 2018 NBA Finals.

Swarm of Teams Behind Leaders for 2018 NBA Finals

The next closest teams are San Antonio and Boston at +1500 and +2000 odds ($ 100 wins $ 2000), respectively. The Rockets, Clippers and Wizards are the only other clubs with a line of +5000 or less.

The Warriors, of course, make a good deal of sense as the early, early … okay, ridiculously early 2018 favorite. Golden State capped off a third straight 67 or better wins regular season and they cruised through this year’s playoffs, going 12-0 to book another meeting with the Cavaliers.

There are, however, a couple of things that could significantly upset the Golden State apple cart according to the best sports betting software companies in the inustry. Both Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry have the ability to seek out new locations this offseason with the former holding a player option and the latter being an unrestricted free agent.

Warriors Could Contend for Years

That said, why would either player leave? Durant came to Oakland for a reason and his reasoning has proven, well, beyond reasonable. His Warriors are in the Finals. It’s not a matter of if Durant will re-up with Golden State, but rather when. The same can be said of Curry. The Warriors are his team and Golden State can offer him $ 80 million more than any other team. That’s a lot to walk away from and it would make absolutely no sense for him to do so.

So that, in all probability, leaves the rest of the league chasing after the Warriors again. The real question is this: Will that change if the Cavaliers are able to upset Golden State for a second straight Finals?

Probably not, but it’s at least something to think about as Cleveland’s roster figures to remain largely intact.
