2017 Super Bowl Point Spread

The odds makers are expecting a high scoring championship game on February 5 and also a reasonable close one, which is a bit encouraging given the lopsided nature of this season’s playoff games. The latest 2017 Super Bowl Point Spread from has New England favored at -3 and the Over/Under set at 59.5 points with the latter drawing -115 odds.

On paper next weekend’s clash between the Patriots and Falcons should be a good. Atlanta owns the league’s top ranked offense in terms of points scored, averaging 33.8 per contest while New England is not far behind with a 27.6 average.

Defensively the Pats ranked first in the NFL with a 15.6 points per game allowed average; the Falcons were a distant 27th, yielding 25.4 per game. However, the Falcons stop unit showed improved play down the stretch.

Atlanta has allowed just 19.3 per game over its last six games and it held the Packers, who had scored 30 or more points in six straight games, to 21 in last weekend’s conference decider. The Falcons pass rush has also been amped up in the playoffs with the team compiling 10 sacks in wins over the Seahawks and Packers. They had just 34 in the regular season.

And, of course, Super Bowl LI will feature arguably the greatest quarterback of all-time in Tom Brady and this season’s likely MVP in Matt Ryan.

Brady is making a bid for a fifth Lombardi Trophy, which would be a record for any quarterback and tie him with Charles Haley for the most all-time. The 39 year old put together another great campaign, throwing for 3554 yards and 28 touchdowns (two interceptions) in spite of missing four games due to suspension.

Ryan produced his best season to date, throwing for 4944 yards and 38 touchdowns while leading the league with 117.1 passer rating. He also posted and NFL best 9.3 yards per pass average.

Next Sunday’s big game will mark the fifth meeting between the Patriots and Falcons since Brady entered the league in 2000. New England went 4-0 both straight up and against the spread in the previous four outings, winning by an average of 10 points per game.
