2017 Super Bowl Picks

Super Bowl 51 has the potential to be a great one with two very good football teams riding extended winning streaks. Both the Patriots and Falcons are peaking at the right time and let’s hope they treat fans to the kind of excitement that has mostly been absent from these playoffs. The latest 2017 Super Bowl picks from Bovada suggest the game could be a memorable one. New England is a -3 against the spread favorite while the total is set at a whopping 59.5 points.

The Patriots have won nine games in a row and they have averaged 30 points per game during their current run, which included lopsided results against the Dolphins, Texans and Steelers.

Can New England continue its high level of play against the surging Falcons?

Offensively one would think so. Atlanta’s defense gave up 371.2 yards and 25.4 points per game during the regular season and it allowed 28.8 points per game in its four regular season meetings with playoff competition (2-2). However, the Falcons defense has shown marked improvement during the playoffs, yielding 20 and 21 points to the Seahawks and Packers, respectively, while also generating 10 sacks.

Still, the bigger issue for the Patriots will be containing Matt Ryan and the Atlanta offense. The Falcons cranked out 33.8 points per game this season and that average ballooned to 40 per game in their playoff wins over Seattle and Green Bay.

New England has faced some good offenses, namely the Steelers, but it has yet to compete against one as potent as the one Atlanta will step on the field with this Sunday.

The Patriots defensive play will, in all probability, determine the outcome of Super Bowl 51. Although there remains a realistic chance that Sunday’s game turns into a back and forth shootout with both clubs lighting up the scoreboard. Given the total, the odds makers are kind of leaning that way.

2017 Super Bowl Trends –

The Patriots are 4-0 both straight up and against the spread in their last four games against the Falcons.

The Patriots are 5-0 both straight up and against the spread in their last five games playing as a -3 or more favorite coming off a home win in which they scored 35 or more points.
